Tobacco Cessation

The Healthy KC Tobacco Cessation and Prevention action team has made the following recommendations of areas for improvement:
  • Prevent youth tobacco use by:
    • increasing the price of tobacco, through state and/or local tobacco taxes
    • raising the age of sale for all tobacco products to 21 years of age
  • Create tobacco free environments through policy change by:
    • Supporting smoke-free policies in all area communities
    • Advocating for smoke-free ordinances to include all nicotine products, except those that are FDA approved smoking cessation aids
  • Determine the feasibility of amending state laws that prevent stricter regulation of tobacco products by local governmental entities
